Included

Day 1: Nairobi/Masai Mara

Set off early for a scenic drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of the last remaining places on Earth where wildlife thrives in large numbers, undisturbed in the way it once roamed across Africa’s plains and forests. As the northern extension of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara is renowned for hosting the awe-inspiring seasonal migration of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and their predator counterparts. Arrive in time for a delicious lunch, followed by an exciting afternoon game drive.

Accommodation: Amani Mara Camp

Day 2: Masai Mara National Reserve

After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a full-day game drive, with a packed lunch provided. The reserve is famous for its black-maned lions and its rich variety of resident wildlife, making it one of the few places where you can spot all of the Big Five in a single morning’s game drive. Many cheetahs here are remarkably tame, often seeking shade under vehicles to escape the heat of the day, and some even climb onto the roof for a better vantage point to hunt for prey. For bird enthusiasts, the Mara is a paradise with nearly 500 recorded species, including 16 types of eagle, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks, 4 types of bustard (including the Kori bustard, the world’s heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sunbirds.

Accommodation: Amani Mara Camp

Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru

After an early morning pick-up, we drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, located just south of Bogoria across the equator in the heart of the Rift Valley. Famous worldwide for its flamingos, the alkaline lake is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. Lake Nakuru is also a sanctuary for rhinos, with over 40 black rhinos and more than 60 white rhinos calling it home. While the flamingos are the main draw, at times, nearly 2 million flamingos gather here, creating a breathtaking sight as a vibrant pink band stretches along the lake’s shore. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.

Accommodation: Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge

Day 4: Lake Naivasha National Park

After an early morning drive, we arrive at Lake Naivasha, the highest and arguably the most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes, sitting at 1910 meters (6200 feet) above sea level. The freshwater lake is surrounded by dense papyrus clumps, which were once used by ancient Egyptians to make paper. Kingfishers often perch on the papyrus, while herons hide within it, hunting for food. Lake Naivasha is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 400 species recorded in the area. It’s also a popular weekend getaway for Nairobi residents who come to sail, water ski, and fish. Though the lake is too cold for crocodiles due to its altitude, it is home to a number of hippos. Along the shore, vineyards produce grapes for Kenya’s budding wine industry.

Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort

Day 5: Amboseli National Park

Start the day early with a drive to Amboseli National Park, where you’ll check in at your accommodation and have the rest of the day at leisure. Located south of Nairobi, Amboseli is known for its dry, ancient lake bed, fragile grasslands, and scattered acacia woodlands. In the southern part of the park, small volcanic hills dot the landscape. Around the swamps of Ol Okenya, Ol Tukai, and Enkongo Narok, the vegetation is lush, with vibrant yellow-barked acacias and phoenix palms creating a striking contrast against the surrounding terrain.

Accommodation: Ol Tukai Lodge

Day 6: Amboseli National Park

Rise early for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds begin to build over its summit. A packed lunch will be provided as you head out for a day of exploration. After breakfast, you have the option to visit a nearby Maasai village, where you’ll witness their vibrant singing and dancing, an essential part of their daily life and sacred rituals. A visit to their homes offers a poignant insight into their social structure and traditions. Despite changes in its habitat, Amboseli National Park remains one of the best places in Africa to get up close to elephants. Free from poaching threats, you can witness elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps, a truly unforgettable highlight of any safari.

Accommodation: Ol Tukai Lodge

Day 7: Tsavo West National Park

We depart by road for Tsavo West National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Afterward, you can opt for an afternoon or evening game drive. Tsavo West is the most visited section of Tsavo National Park, offering much more than just wildlife. One of its standout attractions is the famous Mzima Springs, where up to 227.3 million liters of crystal-clear, cool water flow out of the ground through porous volcanic rocks. It is believed that the water originates from the Chyulu Hills, flowing through an underground river before emerging at the springs.

Accommodation: Salt Lick Safari Lodge

Day 8: Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast, we set off for a full day game drive, with a packed lunch provided. Along the way, we’ll visit some of the park’s unique attractions. One highlight is the Roaring Rocks, named for the wind that rushes through them, creating a distinct sound. From the top of a 98-meter rock face, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Tsavo, which can also be seen from the Poacher’s Lookout. Another fascinating site is the Chaimu Crater, a relatively young volcanic formation under 200 years old, composed of black coke. If you’re feeling adventurous, the crater is climbable. Tsavo West is also home to the klipspringer, a small, agile antelope known for its impressive climbing skills (its Swahili name, mbuzi mawe, means “mountain goat”). In the southwest corner of the park lies Lake Jipe, which straddles the Kenyan-Tanzanian border, providing another scenic stop.

Accommodation: Salt Lick Safari Lodge

Day 9: Tsavo West to Nairobi

After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive before we depart for Nairobi later in the morning. A stop will be made for lunch en route, as you relax and reflect on the unforgettable safari experiences.
